Knitting With The Crazy Person

Why am I knitting tonight? The crazy person in my head is deciding to take up room and board, thats why!   I swear before the night is over I will have gone certifiably insane… okay okay that may be a little overboard, but still. I am knitting because apparently feeling edgy is cool to the crazy person! Well, let me tell you this… it is not!  Ever have one of those days where something just feels completely off? Well, I call that my crazy person and she seems to have planted herself into my brain. UGH!

My knitting seems to bring the crazy person to a lull, atleast for awhile. The Rythmic tapping of my needles and the well calculated throw and pull of my yarn helps bring a zen like feeling  around my brain, calming the crazy person.

What am I knitting? Currently to calm my inner crazy person  I am working on my Unicorn Stripes scarf. I have been knitting on this for quite some time now and I can finally say I am 50% done. Another 50% to go. This pattern is so mindless and yet it helps keep my hands busy. Another plus with the pattern is the vibrant colors and the soft yarn. Knit with almost 85% all Madelinetosh Unicorn tails. The colors are so amazing and the yarn is so soft to work with. This project has been known to put the crazy person in my head to sleep. Atleast for awhile.

Some may think that calling the person in my head crazy, is mean, is rude, is initself crazy. Well I will tell you think, I do not think mental illness is a joking matter, I really think its something that needs to be taken more serious globably, however I do find that bringing humor into my mental illness is a wonderful coping mechinism when everything else seem too hard.

So well, obviously I am not knitting as I am typing this… all though if I have to have a crazy person visiting at the moment, why can’t she bring along super powers along… just saying! Luckily the tap tap tapping of my fingers on the keyboard are oddly soothing.

Okay onto something really fantastic!! You know those arm knit blankets that everyone is wanting to knit… well, being logical ( I know I know it doesn’t happen often) I realized using wool would not provide much durability. I decided to take advantage of Joann Fabrics 50% off fleece sale, and use my 20% off everything coupon and get a bunch of fleece. Defintely didn’t turn out perfect, however I think she has some character. I present to you  a horribly take picture of  Arm Knit Fleece Blanket

This will defintely be a nice lap blanket!! But No more for me for awhile!!!

Well Thanks for checking up on the Crazy Person and her Night Owl Knitter   Scratch that- Thanks for checking up on The Nite Owl Knitter and the crazy person in her head!

Until Next Time!

The Owl, The Leech, and The Bear

‘Tis the season for hat, scarves and pumpkin spice lattes! There are so many positive things that come with cooler, fall weather. The colors are beautiful, the bugs are dying (THANK GOD!!), and I can wear all the knitwear I want. However there is a darkness that seems to overcome me this time of year… every year. It sucks the life right out of me. My socialization decreases, my sleep increases and my desire to knit is almost gone.. These leech is also known as Seasonal Affective Disorder(S.A.D). It turns me from the Nite Owl Knitter into the grumpy bear getting ready for hibernation. For the most part those around me are very understanding, I have struggled with mental illness for the majority of my life. Each illness with their own set of difficulties and my loved ones help and support me, through each Manic high, each panic attack, each depressive day and now each S.A.D onset.

So why am I sharing this personal information with you? Complete strangers? Because I know that I am not alone in struggling with any type of mental illness and I wanted to let those who are struggling to know that you are not alone. I wanted you to know that you to know that you can get through this.

I also thought I would share with you what I try to do to help battle the life sucking leech that clasps onto me this time of year. I am not ashamed to say that I increase my visits with my therapist, I try to remember to use my Light Box, and I try to bring purpose to each day. I am not going to lie, some days I do just lay in bed and pray that the next day will better, but more often than not I am trying to do something productive.  This year the things that I have set up to make it through the season are not only rewarding and fun, but something that I look forward to doing most of the time. I have the honor the babysit my handsome Godson. His smile really knows how to brighten my day.  Ofcourse knitting does help fight off the leeches grip, however this year I really lucked out. I taught  my cousin how to knit about two weeks ago and she is already addicted. I get a sense of joy, pride and purpose whenever she sends me pictures of her project. Add the joy I get with my knitting, I feel like I may get through this seasons leech with fewer really dark times.

Speaking of knitting, my cousin and I are doing a sorta KAL( Knit Along)  and currently she is soaring past me. She is almost finished with her scarf and I have quite a bit to do yet. I just can’t stay focused on my thing at the moment, but I am super excited for her! The scarf we are knitting is knit on the bias and the yarn we picked out for it looks amazing with the pattern… sequins and all! I am also still working on my other projects; Unicorn Stripes, The Danish Forests, And my BFF’s birthday gift. I really haven’t made much progress, if any, on those three projects. I really need to get my butt in gear! Especially if I want to have my bff’s gift done in time!

Well, considering the leech has been sucking me try lately… and it took me 3 days to write this (ugh!)I will end on a goal that I would like to complete by next week. I would really like to have my Bffs gift finished. Do you have any goals you’d like to finish by next week?

There’s a malnfuntion in my brain!!!

So I have had a new podcast episode recorded for the last two days or so, but every time I tried to get it uploaded to my computer and ready to post I blank out and forget what I am doing. So, after two weeks and still no new updated podcast I figured why not post a quick update on my blog, just so you guys know I haven’t forgotten about you!!

I am telling you, as the days get shorter, so does my concentration. I cannot sit and knit on one thing for more than a few minutes and then suddenly I am playing FarmVille: Tropic Escape ( which is really addicting by the way), scrolling Facebook ,and/or finding a different show to watch. Believe it or not though, I only have two projects on my needles…. well soon to be 3, but I feel like I haven’t made progress. I guess the winter blues are starting early this year!

So what is it that I am knitting on… or erm… not knitting on? My Unicorn Stripes scarf has grown by 1.5 colors since I last podcasted. And my The Danish Forests cowl has had  about 20 rows knitted on it since last podcast. I do plan on knitting a leafy washcloth in the next day or two to hand in as my assignment for the Harry Potter House Cup group on Ravelry.  I also HAVE to cast on my second sock ASAP!!!

I hopefully plan on having my updated podcast episode posted  soon! Thanks for sticking around!!

How About Some Games!

I hate driving. Luckily the Hubs doesn’t mind. So during the day I knit and then when I can’t see anymore I usually look for patterns and stroll Facebook on my phone. Right now I am writing this post. ( really what would we do without smart phones!?!) I am not afraid to knit more complicated projects while in the car, but I prefer simple mindless ones. Today, on our way to one of my friend’s house to play board games, I spent time knitting on my Unicorn Stripes. I finally was able to switch to the next color in my sequence ( YAY) the last color seemed to take a life time. Always such a good feeling to see that kind of progress. I am trying really hard not to cast on these mitts – Whither Mitts. These mitts would go  great with my Danish Forests Cowl but,  I must wait until I get a little farther  in one of the two projects I have on my needles.  Let’s see how long this self-control lasts!!! How many is too many projects anyways!?!!

So I didn’t get as much knitting completed today as I wanted. Besides my 45 mins of car knitting that was it. I did however get to participate in one of my other favorite past times. Board Games!!! Not really you’re every day board games either. We didn’t play Monopoly, Clue, or Uno. Instead we played Codenames, Settlers Of Catan, Machi Koro, Heebie Jebbies, and Crossing.

Heebie Jeebie and Crossings were new to me. Heebie Jeebies reveal the things that creep you out the most. Kind of like a get to know your friends game. Everyone votes on what they think gives you the Heebie Jeebies the most, based on the 4 cards placed in front of you. You rotate turns and the first to 10( or your set points amount) wins.  This game can play up to 10 people, the minimum being 3 people. This game was probably my favorite new game I played tonight. Check out Heebie Jeebies here. It is also can be purchased  on Amazon.

Crossing was a very simple gem collecting game. There is a bag of gems and 4 mushroom gem pads. Each mushroom pad contains 2 gems. On 3 everyone points at either a mushroom pad or an opponents player card. You have the chance of collecting gems, losing gems or banking gems. Once all the gems are gone the game is over. The person with the most points wins. Check out Crossing here.  You may also purchase it here.

It really was a great night playing board games! All of them just as entertaining as the other! I am lucky to own Codenames, Settlers of Catan, and Mochi Koro. Purchasing Heebie Jeebies and Crossing is my next goal for board game purchases.

So I have a question. What is your favorite way to spend a lazy day?

Me? I like the drink some tea, knit, and watch tv. Oh and eat! I love to eat. Have a crappy metabolism but I don’t care food is good! On a lazy day I like to binge watch any tv show that I am currently obsessed with. ( Right now its Fringe). So knitting, tea, and TV complete my lazy day. What about you? What is your ideal lazy day?
